Our second 2018 Music FUNdamentals Holiday Concert was held at Frederick Douglass Elementary in Overtown on Thursday, December 13th. Over 50 Kindergarten and First Grade students along with their teachers filled the air with holiday cheer for the 6:00pm performance.
Dr. Joy Galliford, one of our music specialists, has been delivering weekly age appropriate early childhood music education to the these classes strengthening all developmental domains. The students demonstrated their mastery of skills to those attending. These children also had the opportunity to perform their favorite holiday tunes with a live band, the Friends of South Florida Music’s Jazz and Jeans Band. To conclude our program, the students, teachers and school administration sang Feliz Navidad. Following the program, a special holiday gift was given to each performer.
Friends of South Florida Music extends heartfelt thanks to the students and faculty at Frederick Douglass Elementary for joining us in this weekly musical journey; the Del Valle family and Betty Gonzalez for the hand crafted gift bag presented to each child; the Friends of South Florida Music Jazz and Jeans Band, and all of our supporters. Together, we are making life-long connections to unlock the children’s potential in underserved communities of South Florida.
